Announces WebMarshal 6.5.

Web and email security firm Marshal8e6 has rebranded itself to M86 Security, and announced details of the first products to capitalise on its recent merger and acquisition activity.

The firm's upcoming WebMarshal 6.5 will feature a new URL filtering database acquired from the merger with 8e6 Technologies, which the firm claims will enable more accurate blocking of malicious sites and content.

M86 Security is also incorporating a new TraceNet feature which will include data and intelligence from the Marshal, 8e6 Technologies and Avinti parts of the business to provide customers with "even more powerful closer to zero-day" protection, according to M86 president Bruce Green.

Other features in WebMarshal 6.5 include proxy cacheing and support for Google, Yahoo and Bing's SafeSearch initiative, as well as improvements to the dashboard.

Also announced was the next version of MailMarshal, featuring a new blended threats module which customers can purchase as an add-on.

"Using Avinti technology around behavioural malware detection, it looks for blended threats, pushing suspect messages into the cloud where we analyse them, " said Green. "It's hard to come up with clearly differentiated features in the email security space, but this does."

WebMarshal 6.5 is due for release later this month, and MailMarshal 6.7 will be released in October.
