Euronav, a UK based marine company, has bought a dongle and software security combination to prevent unauthorised use of its navigation systems for commercial boating.

The solution, Aladdin HASP, is a hardware-based protection system that secures software copyrights and intellectual property. The dongle plugs into the back of the onboard machine forming an encryption engine to authenticate users.

Euronav produces navigation equipment for boats, yachts, ships and ferries.

The company hopes the deal will prevent unauthorised access of tidal data, passage planning and logging information from police vessels.
