In a bid to protect its commercial email systems from constant virus attack Zon Nederland, the leading ISP and web-portal in the Netherlands, has rolled out an antivirus platform across its back-end Linux-based infrastructure

The internet firm said it selected Central Command's Vexira Antivirus for Linux to shield customers using its email systems from Windows-based viruses, worms, trojans, and other malicious programmes by scanning all in-bound and out-bound traffic.

"Zon is the largest web-portal and a leading broadband provider here in The Netherlands, and our email systems are constantly under virus attack. We are using Vexira Antivirus for Linux to defend our email infrastructure and customers from viruses. It has proven to be a dependable, well supported Linux antivirus solution for us," said Eric Nooter, manager of operations and development, Zon Nederland.

Nooter added that, since deployment, the Linux AV offering has required very little maintenance and provided "considerable" return on investment.

Vexira Antivirus is designed to provide configurable warning notifications to sender, recipient or postmaster combined with heuristic virus detection. The product supports Linux x86 (IA32) platforms including Redhat, Red Flag, SuSE, Debian, Gentoo, Mandrake and Slackware. It is engineered to work with email applications including Sendmail, Postfix, Qmail and Exim.
