IT roles to go in Target restructure

Target will make a number of IT positions redundant under a company-wide overhaul focusing on support functions.

The retailer will axe 260 jobs from its Geelong headquarters and regional support locations over the remainder of this month. Support roles include invoice processing, marketing, design and IT, among others.

Around 1000 people are employed in Target’s Geelong office. 

The company said the restructure was aimed at restoring business performance and getting the business on a “sustainable path to growth”. 

“This is an extremely difficult time for our team, and unfortunately we’ll be losing many great team members,” Target managing director Stuart Machin said in a statement.

“With our sales and profit under-performance over the past 12 months, we have needed to act in order to get our costs under control and the right store support structure in place.”

Target declined to comment on how many IT workers would be affected.

It said not all affected team members had been notified yet. It planned to wrap up notifications before the end of tomorrow. 

The restructure is expected to be completed by the 28th of June.
