iiNet to face Court again in August

The Federal Court has set aside three days in August to revisit a copyright dispute between ISP iiNet and the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT).

AFACT is appealing the Federal Court's judgement in February that exonerated iiNet for alleged copyright infringing activities committed by its subscribers.

Meanwhile, iiNet has filed a Notice of Contention seeking to reaffirm the Court's decision as well as reverse the few aspects of the judgement that didn't go its way.

The hearing will be held on 2-5 August before Justices Arthur Robert Emmett, Jayne Jagot and John Victor Nicholas.

AFACT could appeal to the High Court should its Federal Court appeal fail, however, iiNet CEO Michael Malone said that: "More legal proceedings are not the solution."

"Neither the original case nor this latest appeal will stop piracy, even if ...[the film industry] won the appeal," he said in a statement.
