HP gets into enterprise cloud game

HP has announced a new cloud computing service for enterprises.

The 'Cloud Assure,' program will provide support and security services to companies who seek to move to hosted services.

The program will consist of three separate components. The Application Security Center will perform automated security testing for cloud computing code, while the Performance Center will monitor speed and bandwidth analysis and a Business Availability Center component will monitor uptime and performance issues.

The company hopes that the move will help companies migrate to web-based applications with greater ease. The program will be part of HP's software as a service (SaaS) programme.

"There is no question that cloud computing is providing a new set of opportunities for businesses, but it presents new risks as well," said HP software as a service vice president Scott Kupor.

"HP is uniquely positioned to help assure our customers can leverage the promise of cloud while removing risk from the equation."

The move comes just one day after a collection of companies behind the companies behind the Open Cloud Manifesto were introduced.

HP was not listed among those who supported the project to define general guidelines for cloud computing.
