Fortinet has announced that the company has joined Microsoft's Virus Information Alliance (VIA).

The VIA is a centralised resource for internet users to find out information about the latest virus threats affecting the software giant’s technology. As part of this group the Fortinet security research team will work with Microsoft and aim to address vulnerabilities more quickly and communicate solutions to customers efficiently, the security systems company said.

“As cyber criminals continue their unrelenting attacks, it is our responsibility as security vendors to work together to find innovative collaboration strategies and solutions,” said Richard Stiennon, chief marketing officer for Fortinet. “For this reason, alliances such as VIA have become critical for all security customers, who rely on quick, efficient and effective identification of and defence against these attacks.”

Members of the VIA currently include Symantec, Trend Micro, Sophos, McAfee, Kaspersky, F-secure, Panda and Computer Associates.
