The online learning platform is currently used by over 50 percent of all secondary schools in Australia and available to 1.4 million EP customers.

EP’s investment in the AI-Powered Feedback Tool forms part of its overall brand refresh as it aims to become a leading edtech platform.

Matt Adney, chief product officer at EP told Digital Nation, “Our system doesn't directly provide answers for the student, but rather offers them constructive feedback on what they have written so far, along with suggestions for improvement.”

He said AI has the “power to deliver an enriching, personalised, adaptive learning experience to all students” plus lift equity in education.

Education is one of the most applicable and impactful use cases for generative AI technology.

“This means the student is still thinking for themselves rather than leaning on the AI exclusively,” Adney said.

He explained that “prolonged feedback cycles hinder student progress and risk long-term student engagement.”

“We know the greatest impact educators can make is one on one, but it’s currently impossible for them to achieve this in a class of thirty, six times a day.

The tool provides “immediate, quality student feedback for extended-response answers, leading to optimised learning and enhancing outcomes.”

According to Adney the new tool, the first iteration of its AI innovation, has garnered a lot of interest.

“There are currently 100 schools trialling the product in Term 3 across Australia and New Zealand from government, independent and catholic schools.

“We actually had to cap the interest as it was overwhelming. Schools will be able to purchase the product ready for the new academic year in 2025."

Adney added the government “is taking it seriously” and has released the Australian Framework for Generative AI in Schools, plus is experimenting with their own pilot programs.

“We are working closely with the relevant government agencies and the Victorian Department of Education to ensure our new AI-powered feedback tool complies with current AI policies.”
