This week a job ad appeared for "senior and junior programmers skilled in a variety of areas" to join the already 35-strong team.
The ad was accompanied by a screenshot of a character which features in the game, and has been enough to set the tongues of fans wagging around the world.
Apparently the graphic of a muscle bound pig-man is enough to help those in the know to work out which gaming engine is being used for rendering.
The big speculation now is that 3D Realms has switched gaming engines again and is now using the Unreal Engine 3.0, instead of 2.5 as previously suspected.
What this latest development means in terms of product release remains anybody's guess.
