Security firm CyberGuard has paid $40 million to acquire German content security vendor Webwasher AG.

CyberGuard will take control of Webwasher's solutions, which include URL filtering, e-mail and spam filtering and virus protection.

"We are acquiring an industry leader in the very important secure content management segment of the information security market," said Pat Clawson, chairman and chief executive officer of CyberGuard. "This should enhance sales and add to our bottom line in the years ahead."
