The Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) credential has won international accreditation.

The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2 said Tuesday that the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) U.S. representative, the American Standards Institute (ANSI,) granted certification accreditation for (ISC)2's CISSP credential under ISO/IEC 17024.

ISO/IEC 17024 serves as a benchmark for certification of personnel in various professions.

"(ISC)2 has achieved a significant milestone as the first organization within the information technology sector to earn accreditation for personnel certification," James Duffy, (ISC)2 executive director, said in a prepared statement.
