Cisco closes Arroyo video acquisition
Cisco Systems has finalized the acquisition of Arroyo Video Solutions.

The acquisitino could open the door for Cisco to offer on-demand content services to a variety of devices, including PCs and mobile phones.

"The Arroyo acquisition will be part of our service provider offering; anybody from AT&T to Comcast. It allows them to create more on-demand offerings," Cisco spokesperson Ron Piovesan told vnunet.com.

The finalisation of the acquisition comes on the heels of Apple's unveiling of a movie-download service through its updated iTunes store. The Cisco offering aims to make it make it easier for iTunes contenders to launch similar services.

"It doesn't have to be video, it can be audio on demand, we can look for new services coming from service providers, either a cable service provider or a telecom service provider" said Piovesan.
