Chrome 8 fixes bugs and fences off PDFs

Google has rolled out Chrome 8, fixing 13 security flaws and introducing some new features.

Google Instant now works from the browser's address bar, and support for the Chrome Web App store is now built in, though the shop isn't yet officially open.

The update fixes 13 flaws, three of which are rated high and six of which are rated medium. This time around, Google paid out $4,000 to security researchers who discovered flaws.

"In addition to the over 800 bug fixes and stability improvements, Chrome 8 now contains a built in PDF viewer that is secured in Chrome’s sandbox," added developer Jason Kersey in the Chromium blog.

That means users can open PDFs without using Adobe's Reader, which has been seen as a security weakness in the industry, with even Adobe sandboxing the latest version of its Reader software.

Google this week also announced it was working on sandboxing Adobe's Flash software too.
