CA swallows Netegrity

By

Computer Associates has completed its $439 million purchase of identity management company Netegrity, the day after appointing former IBM executive David Swainson as its new chief executive.

The moves complete a week of variable fortunes for CA. On Monday it announced the cancellation of its regular annual conference CA World,  saying it wanted to "transform it into a true industry leader event", ready for 2006.

The showcase event had been planned for April 2005. A number of smaller events are set to replace it before it comes back in the spring 2006. Over the coming months an information gathering session is planned to help shape the event when it returns.

Earlier this year Sanjar Kumar, then CEO, was forced to step down from CA as a result of a Securities and Exchange Commision investigation into accounting practices.
