CCTV.com, the official website of CCTV, will deploy Blue Coat ProxySG appliances to optimise the delivery of on-demand and live video programs to viewers on the Web. The move is timely as the website prepares for what may be its busiest period in history – the broadcast of the Beijing Olympics.
“Blue Coat appliances have helped us reach a worldwide audience with crucial television coverage of important events,” said Wang Wenbin, general manager of CCTV.com.
The Blue Coat applications will also deliver other Web content and protect the television broadcaster’s Web and video servers. This technology has already ensured the successful coverage of the 17th CPC National Congress and the Chang’e-1 lunar exploration program, claimed Matt Young, vice president APAC, Blue Coat.
“We are proud to play such an important role in helping CCTV reach large audiences with crucial and historic video programming,” said Young. “Blue Coat ProxySG appliances are designed from the ground up to protect, control and accelerate video and other demanding applications and Web content.”
Wenbin claimed that the relationship with Blue Coat will effectively meet the demands of a large global audience of Web viewers for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
“Blue Coat appliances have helped us reach a worldwide audience with crucial television coverage of important events,” he said. “As we prepare for the Olympics, we believe we can efficiently and effectively treat viewers around the world to a brilliant visual banquet of the game’s pageantry and soaring human achievements,” he said.
CCTV manages the appliances centrally from its network operation centre in Beijing and has deployed the Blue Coat ProxySG appliances at centres in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu.
