BitTorrent goes corporate

Peer-to-peer networking firm BitTorrent has launched a content delivery application for corporates.

BitTorrent goes corporate
BitTorrent Delivery Network Accelerator (DNA) is a peer-accelerated content delivery service that provides faster, more reliable and more efficient access to downloads or streams.

The application is aimed at commercial content publishers, including media companies, software firms and video game publishers.

Internet TV firm Brightcove will be the first to integrate BitTorrent DNA to accelerate its delivery of streaming video to customers.

BitTorrent believes that the heavily centralised internet infrastructure currently in place adversely affects the consumer experience and business model for content distribution.

BitTorrent DNA is designed to overcome the obstacles associated with centralised content delivery, such as slow downloads, choppy video streams and inefficient use of network infrastructure.

"The internet has become an essential source of entertainment for everything from music and games to TV shows and high-definition movies," said Ashwin Navin, president and co-founder of BitTorrent.

"Given the rapidly growing BitTorrent network, we already have the broadcast infrastructure in place that effectively multiplies the scale of the existing internet to handle the next wave of content distribution."
