A New York hospital has implemented an email security solution for its users.

A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital bought messaging firm Sigaba's Secure E-mail to meet compliance laws, security and privacy requirements set by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

The Sigaba solution will allow staff to send email over a protected channel.

"Protecting our patient's protected health information by maintaining secure communications is of utmost importance to us," said Joe Phillips, director of Hospital Information Systems, A.O. Fox Memorial. "While meeting requirements for security was imperative, we also wanted to ensure that communications would remain unconstrained. To do so required complete ease and transparency of the encryption process to users."

The A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital is a part of New York-based healthcare group FoxCare.
