A technical glitch at ANZ Bank has downed the bank's online and mobile channels while also restricting users to a $200 EFTPOS and ATM limit.

ANZ Bank glitch limits transactions to $200

ANZ advised just before midday AEST that its online and mobile banking applications were unavailable.

It later confirmed customers were also unable to withdraw or make payments of more than $200 in value from ATMs and across EFTPOS and mobile payment apps like Apple Pay.

ANZ Bank confirmed the outage and $200 limit issues were related to the same technical fault.

It was unable to provide the cause at the time of writing.

"We have a team of experts currently working on this as a top priority and we’re doing everything we can to restore these systems as soon as possible," a spokesperson said.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause our customers."

The bank advised customers needing to access more than $200 to either withdraw several lots of smaller amounts from an ATM, or to split the EFTPOS transaction into smaller amounts.

Customers had also this morning received an unusual error message on the goMoney app that said mobile and online channels were under maintenance and expected to be available by 6am Sunday the 18th March.

The message was also erroneously posted on the bank's Twitter page.

A spokesperson said the bank was investigating.

Update 4:15pm AEDT: The bank advised the issue had been resolved and its systems were slowly returning to full functionality. It did not detail the cause of the problem.
