Alcatel Australia has appointed executive general manager of integration and services Andrew Levido as acting CEO, replacing Ross Fowler.

Levido has 15 years experience in senior management in the telecommunications industry. He has worked for various Australian and multinational organisations.

Fowler, who has been poached by Cisco Systems to lead the networking giant's Australian operations, was CEO at Alcatel Australia for nearly five years.

Alcatel provides telecommunications and networking to carriers, service providers and enterprises. The company had sales worth 16.5 billion euros in 2002 and operates in about 130 countries.
