The Commonwealth Bank's new innovation lab is located on the ground floor of its south building on Harbour St, Sydney. The centre will be used both for CommBank staff to develop and test new products, and for CommBank customers to experience and learn more about the bank's offerings.
Inside the centre.
Guests are greeted by a tablet upon entry.
The tablets interact with beacons installed around the centre to determine which zone the customer is in and tailor the offering accordingly.
Here, one guest is using the iPad (interacting with the display) to access CommBank's analytics on retail spending in Sydney, across time, demographic, age, and other categories.
CommBank will update the data - based on two billion transactions over the last year- each quarter.
The centre boasts three Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets.
CommBank partners and customers can choose one of two story perspectives - they can either spend a day in the life of a CommBank retail merchant, or a day as a CommBank shopper.
One of the Kinect-equipped kiosks in the innovation lab, which guides customers through four of CommBank's product offerings.
At the moment, customers get a walk through of CommBank's CommBiz online banking product; its eCommerce, Emmy, Leo and Albert merchant solutions; and its consumer CommBank app - but the bank said the kiosks can be changed to display other products.
The Albert, Leo and Emmy merchant solutions.
Albert has been undergoing testing for over two years but the bank is still not keen on giving a firm deadline for when it will launch.
In this 'usability' centre, eye tracking software is used to follow where CommBank customers navigate and look when using CommBank products, in order to aid design.
The software is used on both PCs and mobile devices. CommBank will test out new products - which are designed next door in one of the 'idea boxes' - on an average of five to eight customers at a time.
