Advancements in AI-driven enterprise networking are paving the way for big changes in the way organisations manage their networks.
Some of those changes are laid out in a recent Juniper Networks webinar about the evolution of its cloud-native, AI-based network platform, Mist.
Juniper Networks acquired Mist Systems last year and has been steadily bringing its enterprise products into the Mist cloud ecosystem.
Early adopters include one of Australia’s biggest banks, three major retailers, two leading service providers and other large customers.
They are using a Mist AI-enabled virtual network assistant – the Marvis Virtual Network Assistant – which uses natural language processing to enable IT teams and users to have easier interactions with their networks.
By deploying client-side devices that automatically connect to the Mist cloud, the platform also tracks user experience across every device on the network, passing data – about CPU, memory and power utilisation, cabling or MTU errors and other device events – back to the cloud service every second.
Analysis of a continually growing volume of data enables Marvis to detect configuration or performance issues, recommending appropriate resolutions to administrators based on the current network environment.
Juniper Networks uses the platform and is seeing benefits. Despite tripling the number of switches in its customer environments, customer service enquiries have dropped, because Mist helps customers solve network problems faster.
The Juniper Networks customer service team provides constant feedback to fine-tune the relevance and value of the platform’s recommendations.
This is another example of AIOps (Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations), which Gartner expects will be used in 30 per cent of large enterprises by 2023.
AIOps can free IT teams from low-level tasks and improve end-user experiences – even as network administrators struggle to deal with more and more data about network performance, capacity, authentication and other security issues.
Solving those issues is particularly important at a time when enterprises and their customers rely on networks more than ever.
