eTrust Single Sign On offers SSO functionality across a broad spectrum, from client applications to web applications, secured databases and virtually any networked application. It also offers useful tools to administer users, policies and even sessions.

This product offers content-management for email and the web. It has anti-spam filtering, confidentiality controls, http and ftp scanning, URL blocking for web security, and it includes eTrust Antivirus.

eTrust Single Sign-On is for the enterprise market and has three components – Policy Server, workstation client, and Policy Manager.

This software fared well enough in our tests, although some peculiarities raised a few warning signals. It installs easily, with separate AV and Exchange components, and an optional management interface. A reboot is required, after which mail scanning was switched off by default and had to be enabled.

Computer Associates eTrust Antivirus is part of the eTrust security product family that has build its reputation on usability, detection, disinfection and the quality of support expected of any best-of-breed security solution. It provides its users with regular updates for ongoing protection, offering both virus antidotes and signature files to keep the user one step ahead. If you are looking for an anti-virus solution that protects both the server environment and the workstation, with more than adequate protection for a typical SME and the larger corporation alike, then eTrust Antivirus is well worth consideration. Installation of the eTrust Antivirus solution is flexible, it can either be achieved remotely or by local means, so depending on the size of your enterprise you can determine which offers the best option when you are ready to install it.

This solution provides a network-based IDS, real-time session monitoring and internet/email content blocking. eTrust Intrusion Detection can be installed in standalone mode, or it can be distributed on separate machines. The intrusion detection program installs as a service under Windows NT/2000. As usual, the monitoring interface is a NIC in promiscuous mode, and therefore the presence of the IDS is concealed from the attacker.

We are back in the world of passwords for Computer Associates' offering. Part of the eTrust suite of products, eTrust AccessControl is another policy-based application, fully integrated with the other eTrust products, as well as with CA's UniCenter network management software. It is designed to operate in Windows, Unix and Linux, and interoperates with (surprising, but not unwelcome), mainframe environments.
