Symantec has announced its intention to acquire AppStream, a company specialising in application virtualisation technology. The deal is expected to close in June, according to reports.

AppStream has already worked in partnership with Symantec; last year, Symantec enhanced its Altiris Software Virtualisation Solution (SVS) with the ability to stream the resultant applications on demand to user desktops using AppStream technology.

The acquisition is likely to see Symantec step up its capabilities in this area. In particular, AppStream's strength is said to be in management tools to control virtualised applications and which users can access them.
