Smartphones need to have considerations for security or face serious problems

Simon Ford, international sales director of NCP, claimed that although smartphones such as the BlackBerry and iPhone do present benefits, there is a security consideration if the user decides to start transferring data or do online banking.

Ford said: “Before every phone had a camera, and soon you won't be able to buy a phone that doesn't have the internet on it, soon everything will be a smartphone. If you want that option why pick a smartphone? If you like to be able to read your emails, then you need to be secure and you need a virtual private network (VPN) client.

“One of the main problems on the internet is stealing IDs, this is a huge problem and fraud has now overtaken the drug industry, and we are protecting individuals and corporations who are accessing the data.”

Ford claimed that this year alone, LG will launch 15 new smartphones, while another report claimed that Research In Motion will release three new BlackBerry handsets, all of which will reportedly sport GSM/GPRS/Edge and 3G capabilities, alongside WiFi and GPS.

Ford said: “How secure do you want to be? If you don't care then it is not a concern, but if you want to do online banking on a smartphone, then you have got to make sure that you are genuinely safe.”
