NSW Police signs $12m network support deal

The three-year deal was awarded to NEC Australia, which has an eight-year history working with NSW Police, including on a project to deliver the authority's voice platform.

The deal is broader in scope than existing works, covering voice and data networks and associated services.

It covers all NSW Police telephones, PABX units, a Genesys call centre system, Cisco Call Managers, as well as Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, wireless LAN and IP networks.

A key focus of the deal is reliability and uptime of NSW Police's networks, which underpin key services and enable frontline police "to perform their duties on a daily basis", NSW Police Minister Michael Gallacher said.

NSW deputy premier Andrew Stoner told a ministerial ICT forum yesterday that as part of the contract, NEC will also build a new network operations centre in St Leonards "that will provide round-the-clock network support for our police service",

Although the initial term of the contract with NEC Australia is three years, two one-year extensions are also possible.
