Nine companies join open standards security group

ARM, nCipher, OSA Technologies, Philips, SafeNet, Samsung, and Transmeta are the other new members announced by TCG this week.

TCG was formed a year ago by AMD, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, and Microsoft to create open standards for use in PCs, PDAs, servers, digital phones and other products. The group grew out of the former Trusted Computing Platform Alliance and adopted existing specifications from that 200-member organization.

"Our membership represents every facet of computing and security, and the best minds in security are active in working groups that are addressing silicon, software, networking, infrastructure, storage, peripherals, usage models, mobile systems and servers," said Jim Ward, TCG board president, in a prepared statement.

Other TCG members include Infineon, National Semiconductor, Nokia, Sony, and VeriSign.
