IBM beefs up ID management in Tivoli

By

IBM has added a set of identity management tools into its Tivoli enterprise management suite..

The Tivoli Identity Manager 5.0 software allows enterprises to manage user accounts and access privileges. Big Blue hopes that the new software will centralize the management of users, allowing the software to control each account from a single application.

The company touted the new version of Identity Manager as the largest update the application has ever seen. Some of the new features include a series of templates and tutorials which the company claims will allow for "out of the box" configuration.

In doing so, IBM said that the tool will free administrators from having to manually configure the permissions for each individual account.

In addition to managing accounts, IBM said that the new Identity Manager will help keep businesses more secure by alerting administrators to unauthorised access or changes that could indicate malicious activity.

IBM is also pitching the tool as a way of helping solve compliance issues. By managing the access users have, IBM claims that the new software will help companies meet current and future regulatory rules and make it easier to put additional limits in place.
