Google has updated its network search hardware offering.

Google updates search box
The new version of the Google Search Appliance has the ability to index and search through some ten million documents.

The box is designed to allow enterprise users to search for company documents in a similar method to that of Google's web search engine.

"We think that searching for the myriad of business information that helps you do your job should be as easy as searching for information on Google.com, regardless of how much content your organisation has, or where it resides," wrote Nitin Mangtani, Google's lead product manager for enterprise search in a blog posting.

"Giving your IT organisation access to a high-capacity single appliance might save your company expense and administrative hours while making it that much easier for you to find the exact piece of information you need."

In addition to the larger capacity, the company said that it has increased performance speed as well as added security features and improved the quality of results.

The device, which comes in a yellow rack-mount unit, is designed to replace several indexing and database servers.

"It is now easier than ever for companies to give all employees a Google.com search experience inside their business," declared Dave Girouard, Google's president of Enterprise.

"With the improved architecture for the search appliance, businesses can provide secure search across the largest enterprise content repositories."
