Another bite at mobile advertising.

A live event held this morning by Facebook showed off an upcoming moderate redesign of the social network site that aims to provide its users with what chief executive Mark Zuckerberg says is the best personal newspaper they can find.

Bigger images and a new navigation panel that allows users to customise the newsfeed are some of the changes that Facebook intends to introduce.

Facebook's normal web interface and its mobile user experience will be tweaked to look as similar as possible across different devices.

New Facebook newsfeed aims for a consistent user experience

Advertisements will be inserted into the newsfeed through sponsored posts, Facebook's lead engineer Chris Struhar told BBC.

The new newsfeed design will not carry over to Facebook Pages, which are aimed at businesses.

Facebook will roll out the new design to its estimated one billion users over the next few weeks.

Early adopters can apply to get the revamped newsfeed sooner by putting their names down on a waiting list.
