Dimension Data has begun offering a a range of SQL managed, consulting and professional services in the wake of its buyout of of storage and security reseller SecureData Group.

The integrator has announced a managed SQL service and SQL Server consulting and professional services. Dimension Data acquired SecureData Group last year.

Brett Oberstein, national business manager for managed services at Dimension Data, said the new offering was a response to customer demand.

"It is more than a 'just on' approach often required from a managed service, not only ensuring operational continuity but providing services to optimise the environment," he said in a statement.

Dimension Data would offer clients SQL services and support that might lighten the load of non-core parts of their businesses, Oberstein said.

The offering would be affordable for SMBs, he claimed.

"The SQL environment locally is a big opportunity and we are now looking to capitalise on what is a 40,000 plus SQL database market in Australia," Oberstein said.

Dimension Data said the managed SQL service offered specialised proactive database administration (DBA) for the Microsoft SQL Server environment and a web-based SQL Dashboard for monitoring and alerts.

Its SQL consulting and professional services offered accredited consultation on SQL Server audits, performance tuning, strategic directions, consolidation and disaster recovery, the company said.

Dimension Data had appointed SQL Services founder and chief executive Colin Andersen as national database practice manager.

Andersen would manage the SQL Service practice in Australia and internationally, Dimension Data said.

Customers for the new services so far included JB Hi-Fi, the Just Group, Guild Insurance & Financial Services Holdings and Newcrest Mining.
