"Error 56" can't be fixed by iTunes restore.

Apple has pulled its iOS 9.3.2 update for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro after users reported the update was bricking their tablets.

Upon installing the update, users reported receiving an "error 56" message advising them to connect to iTunes via their Lightning USB cable.

But the "error 56" alert popped up again when the tablet was plugged iTunes, rendering their device unusable, customers said.

Apple said it was working on a fix and claimed the issue had affected just a "small" number of iPads.

The company suggested users with devices affected by the problem contact Apple Support.

The issue appears only to affect the 9.7-inch version of the iPad Pro.

Apple was forced to release a new build for the iOS 9.3 update in March after users reported activation problems for older devices, as well as broken web links in several applications.

The company also released a patched version of iOS 9.2.1 in February after iPhones were rendered inoperable by the 'error 53' factory security test.
