Victorian CFA wants to extinguish IT chief vacancy

The Victorian Country Fire Authority is looking for a new IT chief as it prepares a 10-year strategy focused heavily on technological and digital innovation.

The emergency services agency recently advertised for an executive manager of ICT services, who will be responsible for managing the CFA’s IT and radio communication platforms.

Aside from providing strategic leadership, the incoming IT boss will also be required to ensure that IT and communications systems provide the support required by crews during major incidents.

He or she will answer to the executive director of infrastructure services, a position also currently vacant, who will have broader responsibilities covering asset, fleet, land and building management.

Both roles will be based out of the CFA’s head office in Burwood East.

The vacancy comes as a result of the departure of Justin Bree, who worked as the executive manager of ICT services since August 2013.

The CFA recently ended consultation on its forthcoming technology-focused 10-year strategy, to be titled the CFA red paper, which is due for release in April.

The strategy will focus on six transformation themes of science and digital transformation; capability development; innovation; people and culture; partnership and stakeholder management; and policy and governance.

A CFA spokesperson said the scope of the role would be governed by the findings of the CFA red paper.

“The vacancy left by the departing executive manager ICT services has provided the opportunity for the position to be added to a wider pool of executive roles CFA is recruiting for, as a result of recent organisational change," they said.
