EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

Today Microsoft officially announced introductory pricing for Australians to host their data in the Windows Azure cloud, based in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Microsoft is offering both consumption-based pricing plus some discounts for customers that commit to longer contracts - mirroring the models of mobile phone carriers.

Users would want to hope Azure is more reliable than Telecom New Zealand's mobile arm, however, which after repeated outages has resulted in execs from the telco and technology partner Alcatel Lucent being pushed and a further NZ$20 million in compensation to customers.
