EDITOR'S NOTE

Good Afternoon,

Senator Stephen Conroy today presided over the launch of TransACT's first FTTP gateway - a small exchange that provides 16,000 premises in new Canberra suburbs with fibre connectivity.

With theoretical download speeds of up to 100 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 20 Mbps, TransACT CEO Ivan Slavich calls it "the fastest broadband in Australia," using a model that could be replicated nationwide.

But like many Greenfield estates, the exclusive arrangements with housing developers does restrict the choice of services available to residents.
