EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

Today iTnews unveils gaps in the security practices of the Australian Government and several large banks in a report that highlights the systematic failures that can lead to identity theft.

Our banking technology contributor Charis Palmer has discovered that the passport details of Australian citizens abused in recent attacks on Hamas leader in Dubai - publicised in full by the mass media - remain registered as valid forms of identification in Australia - valid enough, for example, to open a bank or online trading account.
