An Australian academic has warned the Federal Government's data retention proposals could see the country's ranking on internet freedoms slip significantly.

And Australian scientists believe they will receive the first public results from the new ASKAP telescope array in remote Western Australian within a year. It is the first part of the wider Square Kilometre Array project.
