Porn house risks Sony's wrath with Blu-ray release.

LFP Video Group announced today that it will partner with New Media Adult Entertainment to distribute the first pornographic video on the Blu-ray DVD format.

The title will feature adult star Jenna Haze in a film that will be released this summer throughout the world. The movie will also be offered in other formats including HD-DVD and DVD-WMV.

"LFP leads the way in adult entertainment and it is only fitting that we are the first to market with an adult film in this exciting new format," said Michael Klein, president of LFP Video Group.

"This release expands the Hustler tradition of breaking new ground with our video titles not only in content, but by utilising the latest technology available so that our customers can enjoy superior picture quality."

Porn merchants have been wary of Blu-ray since its release, as reports circulated that Sony had banned any operation from using its format to distribute adult content.

Earlier this year, the founder of Digital Playground, one of the biggest adult studios, said that he favoured Blu-ray because the capacity of the discs is larger.

However, Digital Playground reported that no manufacturer would take the firm's content, citing fears that Sony would cancel production licences with any facility printing pornography.

Sony's stance has been likened to the failure of Betamax. The adult industry's adoption of the VHS standard was seen as one of the key reasons why Sony's Betamax format lost in the video player market.
