Systems integrators join Microsoft to push Vista

Partnership offers compatibility testing for in-house applications.

Microsoft has unveiled a Windows Vista Application Compatibility initiative to help enterprises assess and repair compatibility issues to ensure that custom applications run on Windows Vista.

The initiative is a partnership between Microsoft and IT service providers including Wipro Technologies, Satyam Computer Services and Tata Consultancy Services.

Companies will be able to test internally developed applications for potential Vista compatibility issues and certify them for the new operating system.

The program offers a library of known issues and solutions and promises to shorten deployment times for Vista systems.

Internally developed applications form a potential roadblock for corporations looking to upgrade to Windows Vista.

The forthcoming operating system features much stricter security settings that could cause existing application to stop functioning.

Microsoft has repeatedly urged application developers to test their software on the Vista betas and release candidates.

Large enterprises are scheduled to receive Windows Vista on 30 November.

General availability for consumers is scheduled for January next year.
