Lara Croft celebrates with anniversary game

Eidos releases details of virtual heroine's next adventure.

Computer game maker Eidos Interactive has confirmed that curvaceous virtual heroine Lara Croft is set for yet another adventure.

The company has confirmed that the title of the next Tomb Raider game will be Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

Set for release in North America on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and Windows PC formats, Anniversary is a totally new adventure for Lara.

The forthcoming title will use an enhanced Tomb Raider Legend game engine, which will see Lara in pursuit of a mystical artefact known only as the Scion.

The game engine will allow for more in-depth puzzles and will incorporate environmental interaction and physics driven solutions, said Eidos. The level design and flow of gameplay are inspired by the original game.

"Lara Croft is more than just a video game character, she is a digital celebrity and icon for the video game industry, as well as a strong and powerful character that people of all ages connect with," said Eidos director of marketing Matt Gorman.

"We are retelling an incredible story using today's technology. We have taken all the key moments from the original game and put them into the context of a brand new Tomb Raider adventure."

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is currently in development by Crystal Dynamics and will be available in spring 2007.
