Lotus Notes adds blogs and Flash drives

Heavyweight collaboration software gets personal.

The latest version of Lotus Notes enables users to carry their personalised Notes environment on a USB Flash memory drive, and to update blogs on the move.

Support for USB Flash drives in Lotus Notes 7.02 means that users can create a replica of their Notes workplace on any laptop or PC in minutes.

The new blogging features provide a template to design, create and update blog entries. Bloggers can add or update content with Lotus Notes while offline, and transfer the updates next time they connect.

The addition of RSS technology to Notes, and its associated Domino server software, allows companies to publish RSS feeds from any Lotus Notes application.

For example, a Lotus Notes database that stores digitally produced audio files or podcasts can be RSS-enabled to post to selected RSS readers such as iTunes.

Once content is updated within Lotus Notes, users are automatically notified of updates via their RSS feed reader of choice. The new version is available now from US$109 per client.
