Ellis has also been appointed to Telstra’s retail senior leadership team.

The executive has served in numerous senior roles for Telstra since joining the telco nearly a decade ago, including as the executive director of the carrier’s Philippine operations.

His more recent duties included overseeing the telecommunication’s giants contact centres in Australia and the Philippines, as well as managing outsourced partners and relationships.

Immediately prior to his new appointment, Ellis had been acting as the group managing director of Telstra Consumer.

The vacancy at Telstra Business was created when Telstra Wholesale’s group executive Stuart Lee ended a 45-year career with the telecommunications giant.

Irving, the former head of the Business division, was named as Lee's replacement.

iTnews understands Irving is also currently acting as group executive for Telstra Retail ahead of the arrival of former Optus chief executive Kevin Russell, who will take over the role in late April.

The appointment is the latest in a string of high-level executive moves at Telstra, which have included former Nokia chief Stephen Elop being hired to head up technology, innovation and strategy.
