Adobe dumps cloud photo storage service

Adobe will shut down its Revel cloud photo storage service next year in an effort to shunt users onto its Creative Cloud Photography offering.

The software giant today told customers Revel would no longer operate from February 23 next year.

Users are instead being encouraged to take up Adobe's Creative Cloud Photography suite, which costs around US$10 per month and launched last year. It is capped at 20GB of storage.

Revel cost US$4 per month and offered unlimited storage and the automatic syncing of full-resolution images across desktop and mobile - neither of which are offered under the new suite.

Adobe claims customers have "overwhelmingly" jumped aboard Creative Cloud Photography, hence its decision to shut down Revel.

The company is not offering migration services, advising Revel users they will need to download their photos from the storage service and re-upload them into the Creative Cloud offering.

The Creative Cloud Photography suite can be trialled for free for 30 days, Adobe said.

It comes equipped with Photoshop Lightroom and CC, Photoshop Fix and Mix, and backup of original files in the cloud at some point in the future, Adobe said.
