Apple admits to iPad Pro freezing issue

Apple has admitted its iPad Pro tablets can freeze during charging, and promised affected users a fix was on its way.

Last week, after the new iDevices became available for sale, customers swamped Apple support forums complaining the tablet would shut down when plugged into charge and only come back to life after a hard reboot.

Apple late last week posted a support page for the issue, advising users to force restart the device - hold down the home and power button simultaneously - to revive the iPad Pro.

"Apple is aware of this issue and is investigating," it said.

The company did not respond to request for comment last week.

Affected users reported that restoring the device from iTunes rectified the issue, while others said reinstalling the iOS 9.2 beta fixed the problem.

Apple has been contacted for comment.

The iPad Pro became available this month, retailing for between $1249 to to $1699 in Australia.

It is the largest version of Apple's popular tablet, at 12.9in, and is being marketed as a replacement for notebooks and Microsoft's Surface.
