Vodafone names new CEO

Vodafone will bring its Romanian CEO to Australia to take over as local head following the departure of Bill Morrow to NBN Co, the telco has confirmed.

Inaki Berroeta has served as Vodafone's Romania CEO since late 2010, and prior to that headed up the telco's Malta operations. The move was first reported by the Australian Financial Review.

Berroeta started his career at Vodafone in 2000 as the director of Vodafone Spain's software development centre.

As Vodafone Romania's CEO, Berroeta led the day-to-day operations of a 3500-employee company which reported revenue of €769 million (A$1.2 billion) in the 2012-13 fiscal year.

He will take up his new role on March 1.

“Inaki is a great fit for the local team and his diverse background places him well to take Vodafone through to the next phase of its 3 year turnaround," Morrow said.

"His appointment demonstrates Vodafone Group’s and Hutchison Whampoa’s commitment to developing talent globally and to putting the right people in the right places.”

Morrow announced his departure from an almost two-year stint as Vodafone's local boss in December 2013, to take up the role of CEO at NBN Co, replacing Mike Quigley.

Morrow had been hired as a turnaround specialist, aimed at bringing Vodafone back to profitability and repairing its reputation following several years of network issues.
