A new company is promoting a technology claimed to be capable of dodging current pop up blocking software.

Freepopups.com, owned by Zquest Media, is offering a free pop up traffic exchange program which lets users advertise their website and services in exchange for allowing others users’ pop ups on their pages.

Justifying its technology Zquest argues that Internet users typically ignore traditional banner and side skyscrapers ads and close pop ups before reading them - rendering the advertisement useless.

Similarly, pop up blocker software which automatically block pop ups is also rendering such advertisements useless.

Zquest claims its pop ups cannot be blocked as they are embedded in the web page currently being viewed. As such, current anti pop up software cannot distinguish a pop up from normal content.

The technology works on Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Linux Konqueror browsers.

Zquest Media CEO Yves Lavoie, did not respond to IT News’ request for comment on the initiative.
