Optus experienced a large scale outage on Tuesday night which downed IP services and affected several states across Australia.

Optus suffers large scale DNS outage

Optus users reported issues accessing online services across the east of the country as well as South Australia from around 4:40pm.

Optus confirmed it had experienced issues with its IP services but is yet to elaborate on the cause or how many users were affected. It said the outage was related to a 'server issue'.

The outage affected the Optus website, online payments, corporate VPN and IP services, external proxies and internet access for Optus stores.

Mobile services were not affected, Optus told iTnews, but the telco assesed the mobile network regardless to determine if there were any other issues.

IP services remained down for around three hours until 8:45pm. Optus' website came back online at around 6:25pm with other services following intermittently.

Optus in July suffered an outage in parts of Queensland affecting fixed and mobile data services, which it attributed to a router issue. That outage lasted around 25 minutes.
