Optus lowers entry barrier to Naked broadband

Optus has introduced an entry-level Naked broadband service as one of several changes to its fixed-line product portfolio.

The telco unveiled a $55 a month Naked service with 50 gigabytes of quota on a two-year contract, though existing Optus customers could sign up for a 12-month deal.

Its previous quota tiers for Naked services were 120 GB, 300 GB and 500 GB, costing $75, $85 and $100 a month respectively.

As with all its Naked plans, speeds are throttled to 256 Kbps once the monthly quota is used.

The price per megabyte of data used on the new entry-level plan, compared to the previous 120 GB entry-level plan, is about double.

The new $55 plan also dispenses with the Optus Security — F-Secure-powered software that is bundled with the three existing Naked plans.

An Optus spokeswoman confirmed the omission of the security package. Standalone, the Security suite costs $3 per computer per month.

Other changes made by Optus are the introduction of new fixed voice-only plans and bundling discounts.
