A 25-year-old man has been charged with allegedly damaging telecommunications cables in up to 20 Telstra pits on Sydney's Northern Beaches.

NSW Police allege that the man accessed the pits in the Manly and Northern Beaches areas, causing service disruptions and "millions of dollars in damage".

The unauthorised pit access is alleged to have occurred during September and November of this year.

The man is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court later today.
