iOS Gmail app is back minus bug

Improvements to come later.

Google's Gmail app for iOS is back, a fortnight after the company ripped the first version out of the App Store due to a bug that broke notifications.

iOS Gmail app is back minus bug

"We’ve fixed the bug and notifications are now working, and the app is back in the App Store," Google product manager Matthew Izatt announced on the Gmail blog.

Anyone that managed to pick up the original app will need to uninstall it before installing the new version

Version 1.0.2 includes pinch to zoom for HTML messages, but little else has changed and it still only supports one email account.

Izatt noted users had requested this feature as well as improved notifications and mobile signatures, such as a "Sent from my iPhone" signature, but these will come in a later version.

"We’re just getting started with the Gmail app for iOS and will be iterating rapidly to bring you more features, including all the ones listed above plus many more," said Izatt.

Earlier this week Google announced it would drop its Gmail app for BlackBerry to focus on the web-based email experience.
