Transpire joins AGIMO telco panel

Services firm guns for advisory role.

IT consultancy Transpire has won a place on the Federal Government's telecommunications management panel.

The Sydney firm joins larger service providers including Fujitsu and NEC on the AGIMO-run panel, which governs all aspects of telecommunications for agencies, from contract design to the services themselves.

Transpire strategic sourcing partner Andrew Mitchell said the company hoped to advise agencies on changes to existing telecommunications arrangements or new contracts.

"An agency may already know that their demand profile looks like x, they think the service set they need is y, but they're needing to articulate that to the service provider they've got and make sure they get the best service model back," Mitchell said.

Mitchell said that matching requirements to a services package offered by a telco was a challenge for some agencies.

"When they're negotiating a set of particular changes, that can often be more difficult because of the status quo of the existing large contract than starting from scratch," he said.

"[Agencies need to understand] where their leverage is and ultimately what's important to them so they know where to put their effort into so they get the right clauses around contract conditions.

"Another [challenging] area is how they measure performance. It can be easy to rest on something a service provider puts in front of you, but putting the effort to really line that up against what you're trying to get out of it in a business sense is what pays the dividend in the long run."

Transpire counts NBN Co, NRMA, TRUenergy and Woolworths among its clients.
